God created the universe, establishing Heaven and Earth under the watch of His angels. Harmony reigned until Lucifer, the Archangel of Light, rebelled against God’s decree to leave humans alone. Cast out of Heaven with a third of the angels, Lucifer and his followers became demons, trapped in the farthest reaches of Creation.
Thousands of years later, Lilith, Adam’s first consort, freed the demons, reigniting a war between angels and demons over humanity. Both sides influence humans subtly to avoid disturbing God’s Symphony, a cosmic balance encompassing all of Creation, including Earth, Heaven, Hell, and the ethereal Marches. Angels and demons manipulate humanity toward divine destinies or infernal fates, maintaining an invisible war marked by occasional direct confrontations but primarily fought through influence and intrigue.
Setting: The world of In Nomine closely mirrors our own. The key differences lie in the subtle presence of the supernatural: significant places can become Tethers, businesses may be influenced or controlled by celestials, and some humans might serve as Soldiers in the celestial conflict.
Contrast: Contrast measures the difference in mood, tactics, and behavior between Heaven and Hell. This story will likely include complex characters—angels can be cruel, and demons can be sympathetic.
Mood: This may be a gritty drama, light-hearted adventure, satire, or silliness. It is up to the characters.
Premise of this story: A Soldier has recognized a couple Servitors of Theft. They’re certain to disrupt celestial activity in the city — Thefties always do — and she’s contacted local, friendly celestials to help keep things stable and figure out what the pair are up to.
