Did you have a weird feeling when boarding the elevator this morning? Did you know, somehow, what was about to happen? You can’t remember. Who could have known, really?
When the elevator comes to a screeching halt somewhere between the 27th and 26th floor, you’re frightened, of course. You’re annoyed. This wasn’t part of the plan! You were going to go to xy, do yz, not be stuck here with random people you haven’t ever seen before.
Damn, it’s going to be a long day…
Then there’s this one person who stands out. Well, pretty soon… sits out. She’s in HR or something and she organises these, these teambuilding things and she’s going to build a team out of you if it’s the last thing she does. Which, remembering the mortal peril you’re all in (not), might well be the case actually.
Her first idea is to get to know one another. Who’s got a phone? Great. Let’s make a playlist. Each person must contribute one song that describes them, that tugs at their heart and sets them on fire each and every time they listen to it. And if they can, we’d appreciate if they could tell us why.
Then, everyone empty their pockets. See what we have between us to keep us fed, entertained, and morale high.
As the hours progress, by and by you do become a team. Team Fight Boredom. Team Fuck Claustrophobia. Team Battle Your Demons. Team Life, Interrupted.
You share your back stories, your current struggles, the things you are hoping to achieve once (if!) you get out of here. Those dreams you put on the back burner. Those words that, with each opportunity slipped away, went unsaid.
When you finally blink into the sunlight, you leave a different person. A better person.

Expectations in applicants:
Your nature card should be a song that describes your character, at least at the stage of their life they currently find themselves in, please. Ideally please provide a link to a YouTube video. You can add more songs in the course of the story as they could be coming to the character’s mind and be added to the playlist, but if you choose to do that they should always have a Connection to your character. It’s not a requirement, however, to do this. Only one song is absolutely required, and that can be anything from Korn to Britney Spears to Beethoven.
Subplot should (ideally) be what you’re hoping to do after this interruption of your life. Or maybe something you wish to achieve among the community of fate.
Please let us know what your character was doing in the building, and also their response to being trapped in an elevator (Fear? Nonchalance? Annoyance? …) as well as their theories on why this unfortunate incident has happened.
Much like there is not going to be a very sinister reason for the elevator malfunction, even though back stories and inner demons are welcome, encouraged and appreciated, passengers on the elevator should not be a danger to themselves or others.
The narrator role is going to rotate between the characters. Every character gets their turn to narrate one chapter from their perspective to give others more insight into them, and have other characters react to them and interact with them.
General information for players:
I’m not sure how many challenges there are going to be, maybe some, but the main focus is certainly not going to be on them, because, let’s be honest, means (and space!) are limited.
As far as the building is concerned, we’re going to heavily suspend disbelief there. It’s going to be a deliberately unrealistic one that houses everything you want. Perhaps some newfangled architectural experiment that is supposed to fight ghettoisation as well as join every aspect of human life under one roof. So your character could be returning from a shop, restaurant, office, dentist, therapist, or someone’s home. Please note the elevator is going down so you’re on the return stretch of your journey… unless, that is, you’ve forgotten something in the car on your way up.
The reason for the whole mess is probably going to be a boring old malfunction. Nothing overly sinister. Ideas welcome though!
